Lateral Thinking

Problem: 1. If you were alone in a deserted house at night, and there are an oil lamp, a candle and firewood and you only have one match, which would you light first?

My Answer:

For this question,I got my answer in my mind without thinking.Since I'm an emotional person,I would light up the candle first, and it would be the last thing for me to light up.I would sit against the wall and put the candle beside me,then I would keep thinking till it finally melts into liquid.

Problem: 2. What can you put in a wooden box that would make it lighter? The more you put them in the lighter it becomes, yet the box stays empty.

My Answer:

Since the word light has different meaning. The answer can be:
1.Hole.  Of course put holes inside will decrease the weight of a box,and also it allows light to come though.
2.Plastic wrap. It makes the color become lighter.
etc...

During the class,we did some exercises, and we learnt a lot.
Although teacher told us we need to break the rules, but it's quite hard to achieve it.

This is an example to show how to break the rules.People always like to use a dot as the beginning of a line, but if we don't break the rule and find another way,we won't make it.
Usually we need at least 5 lines to connect these 9 dots.
So I started thinking how can we use less line?
I found that maximium we can connect by 3 lines is 7,since our pencil can't leave the paper,we shouldn't draw any parallel lines. So we got this.Since we still got one more chance left, the only choice for us is to connect these 2 dots by 1 line,so lets try.
Now we can see it's possible to make the last line connect to the other two line, the only thing we need to do is lengthen these 3 lines.

To solve problem faster, you need to find the key,not just anymore try some methods and wish to be lucky. So the key is to break the rules,to reverse your mind.If you wanna rearrangle less, means you are not gonna rearrangle most of them.So as we all known, the most are in the center,so lets try not to move the balls in the center, and use them to form a triangle which is upside-down.
Now it's plain to see, just move the three balls into the blank space.

For this question,

Logical Answer:
Since there's a child inside,we can't use anything which can hurt the child,so no stones,no anything heavy and sharp. So let's think what is light and soft but able to take the water away?--Spongia!

Unusual Answer:
Maybe we can change the gravity?

Usual Answer:
Fix it for him

Unusual Answer:
Buy him a deaf-aid and ask him again.

Usual Answer:
Maybe there's some strong perfume on the painting.

Unusual Answer:
Maybe it has been influenced by us,and wanna be an art student.

Analogical Thinking 1

It's a very hard thing to express the emotions without face.
I chose cup, alarm and candle to be my characters.

Angry
You can see the hot water is gonna be splashed out,
that's how a cup vent.
It is too angry to show the correct time.
Even the pointer has become fizzy.
The flame shows how angry it is.

Painful
Look at how broken it is!
It lost all the important parts.
Its head has been cut off,
but the core can still transfer the feeling.

Dying
It's melting,
it's life is numbered like an hourglass.
The liquid inside is flowing out slowly,
if a cup can't save the hot passion in it's chest,
its life becomes pointless.
It huddled its body up,
and waiting alone for death.

Happy
Look how excited it is!
Riding its coaster like a monocycle.
It keeps jumping highier and highier,
like a kid who just got a gift.
It's jumping also, and tossing its tiny little flame.

Sleepy
It's nothing special,
but don't you think a cup with hot tea makes people feel peaceful?
It plain to see since every part is drooping.
It lost its spirits.

The Journey 4

I attended our school's photography workshop with my best friend,Reema.

Since I'm a semi-pro photographer, the beginning was really boring for me.Because it's too basic. The only thing to keep me awake was the mistakes made by the teacher. He couldn't distinguish mirrorless camera from DSLR.

I don't understand why so many people cannot identify mirrorless camera, even some people still think that DSLR means professional, and all the rest kind of camera are amateurish. It's easy to explain what the difference between mirrorless camera and DSLR is.

DSLR means Digital Single Lens Reflex. The only difference is mirrorless camera has no mirror to reflect the view from the lens.So DSLR uses an Optical View Finder, you can see the view directly from the lens. But mirroless camera uses an Electronic View Finder, means the light enters your lens and reaches the sensor, and the sensor turns it into a live image and show it to you by the tiny screen inside the view finder. For me,I think EVF is better, because it's easy to use, what you have seen is what you'll get.And of course a camera with less units will be smaller and more lighter. So I can tell you that mirrorless camera is the future. But for nowadays,DSLR still works very good.Because a very big problem is mirrorless camera focuses very slow and not so accurate as DSLR now.People still need about 3-5 years to improve this new technological product. So it's hard to say which type is better now.For sport shooting,of course you have to use DSLR to catch the moments. But for street photography,DSLR seems not very suitable.Imagine there's a strangler aiming you by a huge dark camera. But one thing is confirmed, both of them can be professional,it depends on how creative the person behind the camera is.

The most interesting part was self pratice.Of course I was the photographer, and my best friend,Reema acted as a model.I've shot lots of low key photography for myself before. So my experiences made it very easy for me.

I set the shutter speed to 1/250,that was the maximium speed in that studio, because the flashes in that studio had no high-speed sync.I used manual-focus,because in such a dark place,auto-focus couldn't work.I had no tripod with me at that moment,so I thought I couldn't focus very accurately. To make my photo sharper,I used a very small aperture,F/8.And I asked Reema stay away from the background so that the background won't be lit up.I tested for a few shots.
This is the last test shot,as you can see the camera and flash setting was perfect. So I ask Reema to turn a little bit,and I got this final shot.
I'm so grateful to get this photo.A perfect model is so important.

Then we tried high key.High key is really hard, and I've tried a few times before, but there's no any usable result.

I got this simple plan in my mind. And I think it's a good plan. But finally I didn't find the right setting to satisfy effect. So I gave up...

Then Reema gave me a very interesting idea.Motion, means I use high shutter speed and flash to freeze the time.So Reema kept whipping her hair, and I waited for a good time and pressed the shutter. Then we got this amazing shot.
As a design lover and also a photographer,I always use photoshop. So I thought maybe I could use photoshop to get the effect which I wanted but didn't make it.
Finally I succeed. She looks like an angel.

The Journey 3

My roommate and I decided to challenge a very famous mountain in China.

We got up early in the morning, packed some stuffs.

As we got down, we feel hungry. So we started to walk around in my neighbourhood, and search for some interesting local food. Although this is my very familiar neighbourhood, I still have no idea about the food, because usually I only have my self-made food at home. So we keep walking and finally we chose a restaurant which is famous for its delicious goat-organ soup. The goat soup was really nice, and it made us warm. Although the temperature is not low, but I all knew that it's dawm freezing. And that's why we chose to have this as our breakfast.

We took a cab to the foot of the mountain and start to climb. We kept walking for 2 hours, from the foot to the hillside, from excited to blue. We didn't stop until our legs couldn't bear our bodies any more. We took a break and enjoyed the view. By the way, pineapples from the mountain top were really sweet and succulent.

I forgot how long we had walked, as I raised my head, I saw hope. I saw the South Gate of Heaven. That's the end of this long ladder. I turned my head back and realized that how great we were to stand here!

The distance seemed so short, but we spent half an hour to reach the gate. We asked other people to take a photo of us to remember this great moment.

After this long trip, we could finally enjoy the feeling of standing on the top.
Since we finished our target, we suddenly felt lost. 'What should we do then?'we asked to ourselves. But we had no answer.
